Last week, the Living Doll project (working title Mannequins) saw the light of day for the first time since the actual shoot back in August. On a local TV show called Indy Style, no less! Nikki and I arrived at the WishTV studios downtown Indianapolis at 8:30am sharp and by 9:09am we were planted on “the couch” with host Andi Hauser as we went live in 3, 2, 1! (sweet-mother-of-god-breathe-fer-crying-out-loud-breathe!) Six surreal minutes later it was all over…much too quickly.
Anyway, I’d been waiting for us to be on the show first before releasing the images, so finally here they are!
We were fortunate enough to have John Moon of Northernlight Filmworks (assisted by Brock Childs) shoot some awesome behind-the scenes imagery, first of Nikki and I picking out dresses at King’s Image and then on location. Check it out!
Nikki and I had kicked around the idea of doing the mannequin concept for a few months. Sometimes it takes that long or even longer to go from concept to finished product. Putting together a shoot is not unlike doing a jigsaw puzzle – models, clothes, location, crew, timing – all these things must fall into place if you want to get the best result. So a lot of things had to happen for this shoot to move forward and happily, they did! Nick Allman built us a person-sized crate, Kipp Normand helped us track down an awesome location, N’Rue & Co let us borrow their mannequins and King’s Image said, “we trust you!” Combine that with Nikki’s styling, Kiralee’s amazing makeup (Eyemax Studios), Irina’s hair artistry (Eyemax Studios), and two beautiful models, Tyrie (Lmodelz) and Vika, and I knew we had a good thing in the works.
For lighting, I used my Mola beauty dish as the key light and filled either with available light or one of my speedlights bounced off a reflector. The hair light was either John’s video light or one of my AB800s with the snoot modifier.
We all had a blast! Enjoy!
